AGCS in ERA Project
Enhanced RPAS Automation (ERA) is a “category B” research project managed by European Defence Agency (EDA) and implemented by an international consortium led by AIRBUS. The consortium consists of entities from Germany, Italy, Sweden and France (SAAB AB, Aeronautics; ALENIA AERMACCHI SPA; Airbus Defense and Space GMBH; Thales Avionics SAS; Thales Systemes Aeroportes SAS; Sagem Défense Sécurité (F); Office National d’Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales (ONERA); SELEX ES SPA; ESG Elektroniksystem-und Logistik- GmbH) and Poland (Air Force Institute of Technology (ITWL); Institute of Aviation (IL); Hertz Systems Ltd. Sp. z o.o.; EUROTECH Sp. z o.o.; Industrial Institute of Automation and Measurements (PIAP); Eskadra Grzegorz Trzeciak; Rzeszów University of Technology named after Ignacy Lukasiewicz; WB Electronics SA; and Asseco Poland SA
The goal of this project is to define recommendations for standardisation specifications for the automation of three domains of unmanned air system applications (RPAS – Remotely Piloted Air System), i.e.:
- Automation & Emergency Recovery,
- Autotaxi (automatic transport),
- ATOL (automatic take-off and landing),
in a way that allows BSP to interact safely with other air traffic participants both in flight and at the airport. The products of the ERA project will be proposals for standardisation documents for the above mentioned areas of application.
Achieving the above goals will be possible by conducting research experiments based on simulation scenarios or demonstrations using real UAS.
As part of the project, AGCS software is developed in the field of STANAG4586, E&AR, ATOL and AutoTaxi as well as competences related to UAS technologies.
